One day to go!

Don't forget Earth Hour is tomorrow - Saturday 29 March - at 8pm!

To mark the moment, please turn off all your lights and unused appliances at the switch for an hour.

Whether it's a picnic at the beach, a candle lit dinner or barbeque at home with your friends and family, or simply sitting and enjoying the darkness, there are loads of things you can do during Earth Hour.

See what other people are doing for Earth Hour at our Flickr page or check the news section of the Earth Hour website for a list of community events in your state. Remember, we've only listed the events we know of, so if you're holding an event, feel free to e-mail us at earthhour@wwf.org.au.

Earth Hour in QLD

Queenslanders know how important it is to address the problem of climate change, with some of country's most precious natural icons threatened by rising temperatures, such as the Great Barrier Reef, the state's beautiful coastlines and its magnificent rainforests. Perhaps that's why Queenslanders have taken Earth Hour to heart.

There are many ways that Queenslanders can spend this unique hour of darkness on March 29. Whether it be attending a screening of An Inconvenient Truth, or dining at a top Brisbane restaurant by candle light, Earth Hour presents opportunities for everyone to get involved.

Icons in Queensland that are switching off for Earth Hour include the Conrad International Treasury Casino, the Story Bridge, City Hall, the Victoria Bridge, the William Jolly Bridge, Brisbane Square, and many State Government buildings.

Here is a list of events happening in Queensland for Earth Hour:

  • Numerous Earth Hour community parties and BBQs are taking place, featuring various activities and games by candlelight.

  • Brisbane City Council is encouraging Brisbane families to view a darker city from vantage points at Mt Coot-tha and Kangaroo Point Cliffs.

  • Suncorp's Super Screen will host a public screening of Al Gore's documentary An Inconvenient Truth.

  • Many of Brisbane's top restaurants will be hosting 'dinner in the dark' by candlelight. They include Ecco, Gianni's, Restaurant Two and Three, Rydges Hotel on Grey St, Kingley's Steak and Crab House at Eagle St Pier, and Stone Restaurant at the Saville Hotel on Grey St.

  • The Stamford Hotel's will feature drinks by candlelight.
